Celebrity!
This is a really fun game that anyone can play. It’s called CELEBRITY. It’s kind of like Charades, only you can talk! Give each of your guests about 20 small slips of paper (about the size of half a Post-it) and a pen. The guests then writes the name of a different famous person on each piece the paper. They can be living or dead, fictional or non-fictional. Anyone from John F Kennedy to Elmo. They then fold each piece of paper and drop them into a large bowl.
You then split into teams. Each team must have at least two people on it. You can have two teams to as many as you’d like. We usually play with about 3 or 4 teams of about 5 people each. The team that begins the game then picks a person on their team to go first. They are given the bowl of folded pieces of paper and a clock is started for 1 minute.
Once the timer yells “Go!”, the person quickly grabs a piece of paper from the bowl and tries to get their team ( and ONLY their team) to guess the name written on the paper without actually saying the name. Along the lines of “I was a sex symbol… blonde… my white skirt blew up…” they continue until someone on their team yells “Marilyn Monroe”. When the correct name is yelled, they throw that paper down and grab another one from the bowl. The object is to get as many names called out within the 1 minute.
Each person has the opportunity to PASS once each turn. This is done when/if the person doesn’t know who the person on the paper is, or if they feel it’s too hard. When passing, they MAY NOT utter one word. They must look at the paper, and immediately pass, placing the passed paper to the side (and to be returned to the bowl after their turn). If a person STARTS giving clues, they can not pass the name. They can only pass if they DON’T try to give any clues.
At the end of the minute, you count up the pieces of paper that your team correctly guessed and put that number on the score board. They then pass the bowl to the next team.
You can play until there are no more pieces of paper in the bowl, or after the bowl is empty, you can place all the pieces of paper BACK INTO the bowl and start ROUND 2. In round 2 the person trying to get their team to guess the correct person can only use ONE WORD. Such as… “blonde”. They can not say any other word other than “blonde”. Once they have uttered the first word, they are stuck with it. If their team doesn’t know it, they can only say the same word in different ways in hopes that their team figures it out.
The team with the most points at the end of round 2 (no more pieces of paper in the bowl) WINS!

This is a fun game that gets everyone laughing. And couldn’t be simpler to play. You break your kids into teams of FIVE. Each team is given a pair of gardening gloves (or you can use any type of ADULT sized gloves), and a pack of unopened gum. There are usually five sticks in each pack, thus the five kids on each team.
Line the kids up in a straight line. The first child puts on the gloves and is given the unopened pack of gum. When you yell “GO!” the first kids have to open the pack of gum, pull out a stick, unwrap it, chew it, then pass the gloves and remaining pack of gum to the person next to them.
The game continues until the first team is able to finish their pack of gum.
Like I said, it’s funny to see kids with their little hands, try to manage such a simple task with way too big gloves on. Lots of fun for everyone!!

Now here is a really funny game that can be played by kids OR adults. It’s called the Frozen Tee game. And it couldn’t be easier.
For each team you’ll need one t-shirt and one large Ziploc bag. Neatly fold the t-shirt and place it in the plastic bag. Pour in about 2 cups of water, and freeze over night.
At the party, hand out a frozen bag to each team. On “Go!” each team will have to get their t-shirt thawed out so that one member of the team will be able to put it on. This is MUCH harder than it sounds. And A LOT of fun to watch. The winning team is the one that is first in getting the freezing cold t-shirt on.
Make sure you have your camera on hand!

Skip and I throw a Scavenger Hunt every year, and each year everyone has a blast. Last year, a friend of ours asked if we could help them throw one for their son’s 12th birthday. By changing a couple of the rules, we were able to come up with a super fun party theme and way for kids to spend the afternoon.
In the “younger version” we drove the kids to a mall (but you can pick any place where kids can safely walk around and there’s lots of action), split them into teams of four (plus one adult), and turned them loose. For the next two hours, they were searching for everything from a plastic fork to a penny with the birthday boy’s birth year on it.
We had made up a list of fun items that the kids could search for without being a nuisance to the other shoppers and store clerks. However we were pleasantly surprised how enthusiastic most people were to help our little hunters.
At the end of the two hours, the kids all got together and we added everything up to see which team found the most items. The best part of this game is that when all the kids regrouped, they had so many funny stories to share with each other while they ate cake and ice cream. A party theme and game all rolled into one!!
If you want any help with making your list, drop us a line and let us know!

This is a fun game Beth and I saw at our nephew Colin’s 9th birthday party. Kids love to play grownup, and kids love to get messy. In this game, they get to do both!
Give each child a partner. One sits, the other stands. The one sitting will be the “shavee”, the one standing, the “shaver”. In the second round, the kids get to change positions. When the referee (mom or dad) yells “go!”, the standing child sprays shaving cream in their hand and quickly spreads it on their partner’s face. Then, with a popsicle stick, they “shave” the cream from their face. The team who shaves the cleanest and fastest wins! The kids all had a blast.
At Colin’s party they used travel sized cans of shaving cream. They were easier for little hands.
