Celebrity!

This is a really fun game that anyone can play.  It’s called CELEBRITY.  It’s kind of like Charades, only you can talk!  Give each of your guests about 20 small slips of paper (about the size of half a Post-it) and a pen.  The guests then writes the name of a different famous person on each piece the paper.  They can be living or dead, fictional or non-fictional.  Anyone from John F Kennedy to Elmo.  They then fold each piece of paper and drop them into a large bowl.

You then split into teams.  Each team must have at least two people on it.  You can have two teams to as many as you’d like.  We usually play with about 3 or 4 teams of about 5 people each.  The team that begins the game then picks a person on their team to go first.  They are given the bowl of folded pieces of paper and a clock is started for 1 minute.

Once the timer yells “Go!”, the person quickly grabs a piece of paper from the bowl and tries to get their team ( and ONLY their team) to guess the name written on the paper without actually saying the name.  Along the lines of “I was a sex symbol… blonde… my white skirt blew up…”  they continue until someone on their team yells “Marilyn Monroe”.  When the correct name is yelled, they throw that paper down and grab another one from the bowl.  The object is to get as many names called out within the 1 minute.

Each person has the opportunity to PASS once each turn.  This is done when/if the person doesn’t know who the person on the paper is, or if they feel it’s too hard.  When passing, they MAY NOT utter one word.  They must look at the paper, and immediately pass, placing the passed paper to the side (and to be returned to the bowl after their turn).  If a person STARTS giving clues, they can not pass the name.  They can only pass if they DON’T try to give any clues.

At the end of the minute, you count up the pieces of paper that your team correctly guessed and put that number on the score board.  They then pass the bowl to the next team.

You can play until there are no more pieces of paper in the bowl, or after the bowl is empty, you can place all the pieces of paper BACK INTO the  bowl and start ROUND 2.  In round 2 the person trying to get their team to guess the correct person can only use ONE WORD.  Such as… “blonde”.  They can not say any other word other than “blonde”.  Once they have uttered the first word, they are stuck with it.  If their team doesn’t know it, they can only say the same word in different ways in hopes that their team figures it out.

The team with the most points at the end of round 2 (no more pieces of paper in the bowl) WINS!

Frozen Tee Game

frozen t-shirt

Now here is a really funny game that can be played by kids OR adults.  It’s called the Frozen Tee game.  And it couldn’t be easier.

For each team you’ll need one t-shirt and one large Ziploc bag.  Neatly fold the t-shirt and place it in the plastic bag.  Pour in about 2 cups of water, and freeze over night.

At the party, hand out a frozen bag to each team.  On “Go!” each team will have to get their t-shirt thawed out so that one member of the team will be able to put it on.  This is MUCH harder than it sounds.  And A LOT of fun to watch.  The winning team is the one that is first in getting the freezing cold t-shirt on.

Make sure you have your camera on hand!

Scavenger Hunt for Adults

April 22nd, 2008

scavenger hunt for adults

Like we said, every year Skip and I throw a Scavenger Hunt.  It’s usually for a birthday, but sometimes we just do it for the heck of it.  It’s ALWAYS fun.

Most people know the gyst of a scavenger hunt.  People run around looking for hard to find items.  That’s what we do but with a few alterations.  We usually break into teams of four (so it’s easier to fit into a car), and run around town for the next 3-4 hours collecting as many items on the list as we can.

The rules are simple.  You can not BUY any of the items.  You can not get any item from your PLACE OF WORK, YOUR HOME, or a FRIEND’S HOME.  You must be back by set time or your team will be disqualified.  Do NOT get arrested.  Simple.

With our lists, we usually have three different sections.  1.  Items to find.  2. Things to do.  3.  Pictures to take.  The “Items to find” are what you’d expect.  A hanger.  A penny.  A Do Not Disturb sign.  In the “Things to do” section people have to get creative.  Write a poem with each team member’s name in it.  Create a piece of modern art.  Paint each team member’s finger nails.  And now with pretty much everyone having a digital camera, we make sure each team has one and they have to come back with 20 photos of their team (or team member) doing something wild and crazy.  Standing in a fountain.  Climbing a tree.  Kissing a stranger.

At the end of the hunt we add up all the team’s points and declare a winner.  You have no idea just how competitive your friends are until you yell “Go!”.

Copies of our Scavenger Hunt lists are for sale for $20.00.  Just ask!!

Post-it Head

April 19th, 2008

Post-it

This is a super fun game that Beth and I learned at a birthday party in London a few years ago. It’s quite simple and is a great ice breaker. Any number can play.

Everyone is given a Post-it. Without anyone peeking, each person writes the name of a famous person (living or dead, fictional or real) on the paper. Anyone from Winona Ryder to Winston Churchill. Then each person turns to their left (or right) and sticks the Post-it on that person’s forehead. At this point, everyone in the room can now see everyone’s Post-it, but their own. It’s very funny when the person sitting across from you has “Bugs Bunny” on their forehead, and they have no clue.

So the game begins with the birthday boy or girl asking a “yes or no” question. Along the lines of “Am I a man?” or “Am I alive?”. They can continue asking questions until they get a “no” answer, and then it moves on to the next person. The winner is the first person who is able to correctly guess the name written on the Post-it stuck to their forehead!

Simple. Cheap. Loads of fun.
