Party Guest Book

birthday party cupcakes

A wonderful gift for the birthday boy or girl (of ANY age) is a Party Guest Book.  We do this for the guest of honor at every party we throw and it’s always so appreciated.

We simply find a festive and attractive journal type book, and during the party we have each guest write something funny, nice,  or sweet about the birthday boy or girl.  At the end of the night we give it to them as a final gift.

I have party guest books from my past ten birthdays.  They’re great to skim through years later, and a wonderful way to remember who was at your party.  An inexpensive yet priceless gift.

Party Lighting

May 1st, 2008

christmas lights

Here is a fun idea that sounds very obvious, but it’s surprising how many people DON’T do it. So we thought we’d pass it along just as a reminder.

Christmas lights. Most of us have them. Just sitting in our garages or basements most of the year. Well those of you that have birthdays in months other than November and December… Bring them out!!

Christmas lights are a great way to make a birthday party look festive. And you have nothing to buy. Whether they’re white or colored, a couple strings of lights are all you need to really make your place shine. So this year, instead of storing all of your lights up in the attic, keep a couple strands handy, and bring them out in July!!

Keeping Punch Cold

April 23rd, 2008

ice hand

Who wants plain ol ice cubes when you’re having a PARTY!?

Here are a couple fun and festive ways to keep your punch or beverages cold. The first is always a crowd pleaser for a Halloween birthday or for a Monster themed party. And super easy. All you have to do is get a plastic dishwashing glove and fill it with water. Tie off the top and stick it in your freezer. Once the glove is frozen, just peel it off and tadah! you have a huge ice cube shaped like a creepy hand.

If you want to be even more creative, feel free to add food coloring (about 15 drops) to the water to make a colorful hand. Another fun idea is to place gummi worms in the fingers, so when your glove freezes it will give the cool effect of veins.

Once your hand is frozen, just drop it into your punch bowl, and it will float on top, to the delight of all your party guests!

frozen grapes

Another fun idea to keep beverages cold for a party is frozen grapes. Couldn’t be any easier and it adds a festive touch to any drink. All you have to do is stick a bunch of grapes in the freezer for a few hours and you’re good to go. Not only do they freeze well, but they taste great as they thaw. Go crazy and use green AND purple grapes. They’ll drop to the bottom of the glass and offer a yummy treat when you’re done.

Blueberries also work quite nicely.

ikea ice tray

Another clever object we’ve run across is this ice tray from Ikea. You can use it as a drink stir, or do what I do, and use it as an ice cube for your water bottle! These nifty ice cubes will fit into pretty much any bottle or can. I use them all the time! And at $1.99 you can’t go wrong.

Floating candles

April 19th, 2008

When throwing a party, people often concentrate all their decorating to one area. Why? Your guests are in a festive mood, and here is an easy way to bring the magic to a forgotten room that most (if not all) party-goers are going to visit at least once… the bathroom.

This is so easy and inexpensive, yet makes a very big splash. Fill your bathtub about half full with cold water. Then, drop in about a dozen tea light candles. They float, and when lit will create a warm and magical glow to the room. It’s always a party pleaser at our house.
